Obertrauner Mountain Moments: Guided hiking tour with Martha!
The best impression of the Dachstein plateau is gained by a scenic crossing over old paths that people have been following for thousands of years. From the Krippenstein "Oberfeld" we follow the historic path connection, over which Schladming farmers drove their cattle to the high pastures. This way we walk through the extensive karst landscape "Am Stein", which has been shaped by the ice ages.
The path meanders up and down through wildly rugged Dachstein limestone, mountain pine forests, shallow and deep karst hollows and over gentle hills that invite you to linger and have a good look. It is only shortly before the "Feisterscharte" (2 198 m) between Eselstein and Sinabel that you meet rope insurance companies. They give the adventure an alpine touch, but can be easily overcome on the ascent. This way we reach the Guttenberghaus (2 146 m) with wonderful views into the Ennstal and the Tauern. It is the easternmost alpine club hut on the Dachstein and at 2 146 m above sea level the highest mountain hut in Styria.
After an extensive rest in the hospitable hut we continue our way down into the valley. In innumerable hairpin bends, we follow gravel paths first through the Tiefkar to Lärchboden, where we meet the gravel road. At the organic hotel and restaurant Feisterer, with organic products from our own farm, our taxi bus awaits us and takes us back to Obertraun.
