Via Ferrata Kuckucksnest

Climbing with magnificent views

The Kuckucksnest is a short slab via ferrata on the south-western side of the Hoher Krippenstein in the Dachstein Krippenstein climbing (via ferrata) arena and offers magnificent views from the Dachstein to the mountain peaks of the Inner Salzkammergut.

With its airy passages and exposed location, the Kuckucksnest is a highlight for experienced via ferrata fans who want to combine thrills with panoramic views. The climb is compact but intense – and therefore perfect for anyone looking for a tough challenge.

Climbing route

Via Ferrata Kuckucksnest

Short approach (A/B) to the starting wall and steeply upwards over it (B/C). Then slightly through an earthy mountain pine belt (A) to the NW wall. Climb steeply and with few footholds using friction (C), then easier (B/C) to an approx. 1.5 m high, slightly overhanging ‘mini-dihedral’ (C).

Continue on the now less steep NW wall (B to B/C) to a wide grassy ledge (A), which leads to another rocky ascent. Over this (mostly B, sections B/C) to the trail (A to A/B) in mountain pines.

Climb through mountain pines and rock until you reach the wide path to Krippenstein. 10 minutes to the summit.
