  • The 'Little Bear' via ferrata - right by the Krippenstein mountain station - is a climbing experience especially for children.

  • The guided tours through the Mammut Cave and Koppenbrüller Cave (open from 20 July) are exciting - a cave tour is also a perfect excursion trip for the whole family on bad weather days.

  • Sunrise trips: it's worth getting up early! The sunrises on the Dachstein Krippenstein are magical.

  • Full moon rides: When the moon is full, the Dachstein Krippenstein becomes a mystical place. Enjoy the special atmosphere and the quiet beauty of the mountain world accompanied by the Obertraun brass band.

  • Guided hikes on the Dachstein plateau such as to the Zwölferkogel, the Däumelkogel and the Heilbronner Kreuz. An unforgettable day on the "Stoa" awaits you.

5fingers viewing platform

The 5fingers viewing platform in Obertraun, Upper Austria is probably one of the most spectacular viewing platforms in Austria. It offers adrenalin kicks at the highest level.

  • The 5fngers viewing platform is built in the shape of a hand that juts out of the wall 500 metres above the ground.

  • From the 5fingers you can enjoy a unique view of lake Hallstatt and the Inner Salzkammergut.

  • The 5fingers can be reached via a well-developed hiking trail in approx. 30-40 minutes from the mountain station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car.

  • Tip: On the way to the 5fingers, you will pass the World Heritage View, the World Heritage Spiral and the Heilbronn chapel. Well worth to visit.

Dachstein Cave World

The Dachstein Cave World offers a perfect bad weather program and is also a highlight for every visitor when the weather is fine:

    Dachstein Giant Ice Cave: Experience the fascinating world of ice and stone in the Giant Ice Cave with suspension bridge, light and sound show and meet the cave bears Ben & Boris.

    Mammut Cave: The giant Mammut Cave will amaze you with an incredible play of colors and projections such as the cave venus, which appears out of nowhere.

Heilbronner Circular Trail

An unforgettable mountain experience awaits you on the Heilbronner Circular Trail on the Dachstein Krippenstein!

  • A special highlight along the Heilbronner Circular Trail is the Dachstein shark, a spectacular viewing platform in the shape of a shark, which hovers 400 metres above the abyss.

  • From here you can enjoy a unique view of the Salzkammergut and the surrounding peaks from the shark's mouth.

  • Families can explore the small ice cave along the way and discover fossils.

The family-friendly Heilbronner Circular Trail is well signposted and suitable for hikers of all levels.

Via ferrata 'Little Bear'

An unforgettable adventure awaits young climbing fans on the via ferrata 'Little Bear':

  • The via ferrata 'Little Bear' is specially designed for children and offers an exciting climbing experience.

  • The approach to the 'Little Bear' via ferrata is located right next to the Krippenstein mountain station.

  • The route leads through rocky terrain and offers small climbing passages.

  • The Little Bear via ferrata is suitable for young climbers from the age of 6 and a height of 1.35 metres.

Concerts & art project

  • Ice sound concerts: In summer, the Dachstein Giant Ice Cave is transformed into the "coolest" concert hall in the Salzkammergut with the Ice Sound Concerts.

  • Silent Echoes: Silent Echoes is a fascinating art project by US artist Bill Fontana that combines the sound of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Dachstein Giant Ice Cave. Date: 04.09. to 03.11.2024, to be heard as part of a guided cave tour

  • Attwenger goes Dachstein is a fascinating music project as part of the Capital of Culture 2024. The concert will take place on 31 August 2024 in the Schönbergalm Nature Adventure Park. Admission free (voluntary donations).
